Berlin-based multi instrumentalist and producer Berus took some detours before launching his new main project going by his original name. Since 2012 he tours the world under the moniker Frag Maddin and released various EP’s via respected house and techno labels such as Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse Records and DVS1’s Mistress Recordings. In contrast to his previous dance floor oriented drops Berus’ now ventures into a new chapter of neo soul and hip-hop. And it feels like a homecoming. Berus’ music draws inspiration from a broad catalogue of evergreens and underground material. His compositions are influenced by 90’s hip-hop, the neo soul of Soulquarians, 80’s funk music and Detroit’s long tradition in house and techno. The common ground for this unusual mix of styles: funk music.

Berus kicks off with his “Voyage” EP, which will be released on January 8th, 2021, via Berlin-based Kommerz Records. The four track EP is accompanied by two single releases: bass line heavy instrumental “Gold Seal” on November 27th and “Black Rose” featuring Brussels-born and Berlin-based R&B singer K.ZIA on December 16th. “Voyage” is the first part of “Transfer Exchange Program”, a series of digital EPs showcasing producers on Kommerz Records.

Meanwhile, he’s already working on his debut album “Blue Hope”, which he produces with a wide range of vocalists and instrumentalists from Berlin, London and Los Angeles. The release is set for spring 2021.

Berus was born to a Zaza family in Kurdistan, which eventually migrated to Germany escaping prosecution and discrimination of the nationalist regime in Turkey. The family settled in Hamburg and Berus grew up to be a musician. He played the drums, formed teen punk bands and started producing at an early age experimenting and shaping his future as an artist.
